Yesterday was the Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador coronation and today I can say that I am the Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador. Wow! What a responsibility! I had so much fun yesterday with the other girls who were running! I think we're going to have a great time this year representing the dairy industry here in Whatcom County. I truly look forward to serving my community in this way, along with Maleah S. and Brenda R.!
I thought that it might be a good idea to start a blog. Because I know this year is just going to fly by and before I know it, it'll all be over. Also, I think it's a good idea so that people can keep up with what we'll be doing (like my mom haha). :) So here I plan to chronicle the Dairy Ambassador events. My former blogs have not been so successful so hopefully this one works.
What, you might ask, is all involved in Coronation day? Well, we are certainly kept busy! I will try provide some timeline of what we all did yesterday:
9:00am-- I got picked up at my house by Jackie B. and we drove to the fairgrounds and arrived there around 9:20am.
9:45am-- The candidates, chaperones, and reigning royalty got to have breakfast together and got to know the judges.
10:00am-- The candidates and reigning royalty adjourned to the People's place to get ready for interviews.
10:30am-- Each candidate gets a 15 minute interview in front of all the judges, in the Farm Friends office.
11:15am-- We each got to meet with Dillon H., our Master of Ceremonies, so that he could get to know us a little better for when he introduced us at the dinner.
12:00am-- Lunch time. We had a delicious lunch provided and ate with the judges, Dairy Women, and reigning royalty. We then gave our 3 minute speech to everyone present except the other 2 candidates, and then we got asked an impromptu question.
1:15pm-- We adjourned back to the People's place, where we put on our kahki's and got our nice new Got Milk shirts so that we could go on our outreach.
1:30pm-- We left on our outreach to Lynden Christian's Preschool class. We helped the kids make pudding paintings (yummy!) and educated them about milk products and passed around yogurt for them to eat.
2:45pm-- We changed into our evening gowns and practiced entering and exiting for a long time. :)
3:45pm-- The judges had a second interview with us. This one was only 5-10 minutes long.
4:00pm-- The hairstylists arrive and helped us get ready for the evening.
5:45pm-- Photo time! We got a bunch of photos of all of us while we were all dressed up for the evening.
6:20pm-- Receiving line begins. We said hi to everyone, and shook their hands.
7:00pm-- Dinner time/Coronation banquet
Yes, it was a busy day, but it was really fun, and we all had a good time and are excited to be the Ambassadors for milk here in Whatcom County!
